The Southern Hemisphere's fresh blueberry exports in the 2023/24 season saw a 16% decrease, totaling 339,983 tons, due to the El Niño weather phenomenon. Despite the overall decline, Peru continued as the leading exporter with a decrease of 22%, followed by Chile and South Africa with reductions of 2% and 12% respectively. The export volumes and prices of the dominant Legacy and Duke varieties, along with new varieties like Rocio, Sekoya Pop, and Eureka, were impacted. The price of Peruvian blueberries increased by 43%, while Chilean blueberries experienced price fluctuations. Logistical challenges caused export peaks between September and February. Over the past decade, there has been a steady growth in total blueberry exports from Southern Hemisphere countries like Peru, Mexico, and Morocco, with a notable increase in organic exports until weather conditions reduced production. Chile remains the leader in frozen blueberry exports, accounting for 72% of Latin America's total.
