In the first quarter of 2021, São Paulo's trade balance showed a deficit of US$ 4,756.4 million, with imports exceeding exports, marking a 7.46% increase from the previous year. The agribusiness sector experienced a 14% decrease in trade balance due to COVID-19 impacts, with main exports being sugar and ethanol, meat, soybeans, juices, and forestry products, primarily to China, the European Union, and the United States. Meanwhile, the imports were dominated by paper, wheat, and palm oil. This deficit situation continues the trend from 2020, despite potential benefits from a devalued dollar for exports.
