Brazil may face the risk of water shortages by 2050 due to climate change and inefficiency in the distribution of the resource, according to a projection by the Instituto Trata Brasil. According to Agência Brasil, on average in Brazilian cities, there would be a 3.4% restriction in water availability throughout the year, which would equate to about 12 days of annual rationing. In the drier regions of the Northeast and Midwest, the shortage could exceed 30 days. The study "Future Demand for Water in 2050: Challenges of Efficiency and Climate Change" was released this Tuesday (28) by the Instituto Trata Brasil, in partnership with the consultancy Ex Ante.
