The Grain Union of Kazakhstan projects ending reserves of sunflower in the country to be up to 370 thousand tons by October 1, 2024, which is 42% of the projected gross sunflower harvest in 2023. The increase in carryover stocks has been attributed to the period of active export regulation, which has resulted in irrational reserves exceeding 90 thousand tons, according to the Union. Additionally, official statistics on sunflower seed residues in Kazakhstan are reported to diverge from actual figures by more than 30%, leading to discrepancies in reported volumes and actual availability on the market.
