Sustainable rice area grows 62.4% in RS

The Environmental Seal of the Irrigated Rice Crop of Rio Grande do Sul, promoted by the Rio Grandense Rice Institute (Irga), increased the areas of environmentally responsible cultivation of the grain by approximately 62.4% between the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 harvests. The data are from the Irga Seal Committee, and indicate an increase from 77,902 to 126,489 hectares. Another relevant data point is the growing number of participating properties. There were 113 certified properties in the 2024/2025 harvest, while the 2025/2026 harvest recorded 232. The objective of the seal is to promote the sustainable production of rice in a manner aligned with current legislation and good management practices, which ensure quality of life for those involved in the rice production chain.
