[Agricultural, Fisheries, and Livestock Newspaper=Reporter Kim Jeong-hee] This year, Taean County invested a total of 2.6 billion won to carry out the "2025 Pine Wood Nematode Control Project" across the county, with the main activities being tree injections and the removal of dead trees. The pine wood nematode typically parasitizes on vectors such as the northern longhorn beetle and enters the trunk through wounds caused when the vector feeds on young tree branches. Once infected, most trees wither and die within three months, and recovery is impossible, making continuous surveillance and preventive control extremely important. The first occurrence in the Taean area was in Anmyeon-eup in 2014, and over the past five years, a total of 2,887 trees have been affected.
