Tequila exports skyrocket during the pandemic in Mexico

In the last two years, in the midst of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, the value of tequila exports has skyrocketed, according to official figures from federal institutions. Exports of this emblematic drink from Jalisco totaled two thousand 442 million dollars (MD) in 2020 and reached three thousand 317 million dollars during 2021. Data from the Ministry of Economy, the Tax Administration Service (SAT), the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) show that this phenomenon did not occur only because of prices, since the volume transferred to other countries also registered increases. For example, although 208 million liters of tequila were exported in 2018, in 2020 it reached 306 million. The main destinations were the United States (EU), Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Australia, Spain, Latvia and Japan.
