The European Union (EU) has emerged as the third largest importer of agri-food products globally, with agricultural trade volume reaching 306 billion euros in 2020, a slight increase from the previous year, according to a European Commission report. The EU's agriculture trade is supported by numerous free trade agreements and a strong common agricultural policy that promotes open and fair trade. The trade volume consisted of 184 billion euros in exports and 122 billion euros in imports, with pork and wheat being significant export products. The increase in imports was primarily driven by oilseeds, palm oil, fruits, and soybeans, while the EU saw a decrease in exports and imports from countries like the United States, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
