The European Union will begin to implement its new law against deforestation in December 2026, following the informal agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council that delays the regulation by one year, aimed at preventing European consumption of livestock, cocoa, coffee, or wood from contributing to the destruction of forests. The agreement between the Eurochamber and the member states, reached on the night of Thursday to Friday, also provides for flexibilities and simplifications "to facilitate its implementation by companies, international actors, and member states," the Parliament summarized in a statement. "Simplified rules, but maintaining firm action against global deforestation.
