The Faroe Islands, an autonomous Danish region, have the autonomy to decide on their own whether to allow Russian fishing vessels in their ports, despite calls from Denmark to ban such ships. The Faroese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hogni Hoydala, stated that the islands can manage their security and have increased control over fishing and transportation of goods in their waters. This decision has been made despite concerns from Scandinavian countries about potential Russian subversive activities and the extension of the 1977 fishing quota agreement with Russia, which has been objected to by the EU and Denmark due to the situation in Ukraine.
