Farmers in Kabardino-Balkaria and Sevastopol, Russia, are beginning to cultivate nut crops, with initial harvests this fall. Mikhail Prytkov harvested 1 ton from 8,000 almond trees and plans to expand, while a Sevastopol enterprise, aided by a 2 million ruble grant, collected 440 kg of almonds and 445 kg of hazelnuts. Another enterprise, supported by a 1.55 million ruble grant, is planting almond, hazelnut, and walnut trees. Currently, one Sevastopol enterprise is in the commercial fruiting phase, with a total hazelnut harvest of 3.5 tons this year, up from 3 tons the previous year.
