A successful trial production of kumquats, also known as "golden orange," has been carried out in the Seferihisar district of Izmir, Turkey, yielding 1500 kilograms from 400 trees planted on a 5 decare land. Despite being small, the trees show high productivity with an expected increase in fruit volume. The kumquat, which is currently grown mainly in hobby gardens and pots in Izmir, is expected to become a significant commercial crop in the Aegean Region. Hayrettin Uçar, President of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association, who spearheaded the trial, plans to expand planting areas and increase variety to improve economic value and provide more satisfying prices for producers. The kumquat, which can be consumed in various forms and has a high added value, is currently sold for 25-30 liras per kilogram in the market.
