The Spanish fishing sector has rejected the agreement on catch possibilities reached by the EU for 2024 specifically in the Mediterranean, while assessing the progress made in the North Atlantic and the Cantabrian Sea. The EU Fisheries Ministers reached an agreement on Atlantic quotas for 2024, with increases in important species, but cuts in days at sea in the Mediterranean, which was celebrated by the general secretary of the Cepesca shipowners' association, although disappointing for fishing guilds in regions such as Asturias and Andalusia. Additionally, environmental organizations consider the fishing cuts included in the agreement to be insufficient.
