The increase in supplies from Argentina has eased the tension in the global sunflower market.

According to Oil World, the increased export of sunflower seeds from Argentina is somewhat easing the tension in the global market, and in the short to medium term, it may lead to a decrease in prices, which have risen due to the reduction in sunflower seed production in the Northern Hemisphere, reports APK-Inform. At the beginning of December, Argentina sent one ship each of sunflower seeds to Portugal and South Africa, with a total volume of 50-60 thousand tons, and in January, it plans to send a third ship to the Black Sea region, although the final destination has not yet been determined. According to Oil World analysts, in the 2025/26 marketing year, Argentina will increase sunflower seed exports compared to the previous season from 133 to 460 thousand tons, and the processing volume, thanks to the introduction of new capacities, will reach 5.4 million tons (compared to 4.4 million tons in the 2024/25 marketing year and 3.7 million tons in the 2023/24 marketing year). Accordingly, the export of sunflower oil and meal from Argentina in the 2025/26 marketing year will increase compared to the previous season by 0.3 to 1.83 million tons and by 0.4 to 1.75 million tons respectively.
