The Valencian Institute of Agrarian Research (IVIA) has been involved in controlling Diaphorina citri, the vector of HLB or 'greening' of citrus, the most devastating disease for Mediterranean citriculture, in collaboration with other European countries such as Cyprus, which has already managed to reduce the vector population thanks to the biological control program promoted by IVIA. Since the detection of Diaphorina citri in Cyprus in 2023, the Entomology Unit of the Plant Protection and Biotechnology Center of IVIA has been collaborating with the Cypriot Government to develop a biological control program against the vector causing this serious threat to citrus.
