(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Jae-hoon = The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 4th that it will supply 47,500 tons of cabbage and radishes and invest 50 billion won in budget for agricultural, forestry, and fishery product discount support to reduce the burden on consumers ahead of the kimchi-making season.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced these measures at the Economic Affairs Ministerial Meeting and the Price Affairs Ministerial Meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day.
In addition to supplying 36,500 tons of cabbage and 11,000 tons of radishes, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will also release 5,000 tons of peppers, garlic, onions, and solar salt.
With the 50 billion won budget for agricultural, forestry, and fishery product discount support, a discount event for all kimchi ingredients will be held at large and medium-sized supermarkets until the 3rd of next month.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will invest 20 billion won in the seafood discount event, holding the "Republic of Korea Fisheries Kimchi Special Exhibition" targeting solar salt, shrimp paste, anchovy sauce, oysters, and other items, and issuing Onnuri vouchers at traditional markets.
In addition to the supply and discount measures, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will also take action on safety management, including inspecting the origin of kimchi ingredients and testing for residual pesticides.
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong said, "We will make every effort to reduce the burden on consumers so that they can make kimchi at the desired time and in the necessary quantity."
