The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has called a meeting in Madrid this Monday to address the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) detected in wild boars in the Collserola area, in Barcelona, which will be attended by representatives of the Generalitat and the meat industry. The meeting will take place at the ministry's headquarters in Madrid four days after the first cases of the plague were confirmed in two wild boars, marking the first outbreak of ASF in Spain since November 1994. According to sources from the pork sector, the meeting will address, among other issues, the impact of this outbreak on pork exports. Spain is the leading producer of pork in the European Union (EU) and the third in the world, exporting annually worth about 8.8 billion euros, of which nearly 60% (5.1 billion) are destined for the EU.
