The U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest report reveals a notable increase in the production of shelled pecans in the U.S. for the 2020-2021 season, reaching 302 million pounds, which is an 18% rise from the previous year. The report highlights the top contributing states, with Georgia, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and Oklahoma, and also notes a surge in planting areas and investment in new orchards in western states due to higher pecan prices. Despite the production increase, the total output value for the season dropped by 15% to $399 million, largely due to a decrease in demand from Chinese buyers because of the Sino-US trade dispute. The domestic market has emerged as the main consumer, with signs of recovery in the export market.
