In the first quarter of this year, Russia experienced a notable increase in wine production, with still wines up by 25.4% to 75 million liters and sparkling wines by 26.5% to 31 million liters, according to Roskoshestvo. The market has seen a shift towards a preference for white and pink wines, which now represent 61% of the total production. Domestic wines have surpassed 50% of the still wine market and 62% of the sparkling wine market, with expectations for further growth. There's been a decline in wine imports from European countries, contrasted by an increase from BRICS nations, especially South Africa. This trend is anticipated to persist into 2024, with Russian wines projected to make up 60-65% of total sales, driven by factors such as excise duty indexation and an expanded retail presence.
