(Jeonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jin-bang = The Rural Development Administration's National Institute of Agricultural Science announced on the 12th that it will strengthen cooperation with Hokkaido University's Faculty of Agriculture in the field of carbon-neutral agricultural technology research.
The National Institute of Agricultural Science visited Hokkaido University on the same day to discuss research cooperation plans to develop key technologies such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector and promoting soil carbon storage.
The two institutions reviewed ▲ information exchange on greenhouse gas reduction technology and climate-resilient agricultural technology ▲ strengthening the technology base such as biochar and carbon storage cultivation methods ▲ expanding international joint research and researcher exchanges ▲ the need for long-term cooperation to link carbon-neutral agricultural policies.
Furthermore, they agreed to explore specific cooperative projects in the future and to promote regular research exchanges, including researcher visits and training.
The two institutions also plan to strengthen the development of carbon-neutral agricultural technology and related joint responses by establishing various cooperation plans.
Lee Sang-jae, Director of the Agricultural Environment Department at the Rural Development Administration, said, "This cooperation is an important stepping stone to expand domestic capabilities within the international carbon-neutral agricultural research trend. We will continue to do our best to expand carbon sinks and develop greenhouse gas reduction technologies in the agricultural sector based on various international research networks."
