The Spanish pistachio sector is expected to see significant growth in the next five years, with a large portion of recently planted crops entering production. According to PistachoPro, there was a surge in plantations after 2015, expanding the pistachio growing area from 7,857 hectares in 2015 to 66,467 hectares in 2021. Castilla-La Mancha is the leading region for pistachio cultivation. The next few years will see the majority of these new plants starting to yield, potentially positioning Spain as a significant player in the global pistachio market, currently dominated by Iran, the US, and Turkey.
