The surplus of the agri-food balance between Spain and China was halved in 2024.

Agricultural trade exchanges between Spain and China ended in 2024 with a surplus for Spain of just 253 million euros, practically half of what was recorded in 2023 and far from the more than 2,000 million euros in 2020 and 2021. This result is due to the fact that the value of Spanish exports to the Chinese market remained stable while the value of imports into Spain of Chinese products increased by 16.3% and exceeded 1,600 million euros. The value of Spanish exports of pork fell again. Data published by the Ministry of Agriculture on agri-food trade with China last year show a decline not only in the value of pork exports but also of edible offal and other products from pigs, included in other tariff headings. In volume, exports of pork and other pork products stood at 537,159 tons (in 2023 they were around 560,000 tons). The provisional tariffs that China has started to apply to EU -and Spanish- pork could cause a further decline in 2025 in the shipments of pork to that country ...
