Five years ago, in January 2021, 10 eggs cost 442 forints according to KSH data. This year, the price of the product jumped from 825 forints (January) to 921 forints (November), meaning that while it has not become a luxury item, Hungarian shoppers are seriously considering whether to always have this simple, yet versatile food item at home. Of course, consumers are not exposed to damaged or "blemished" eggs for any reason, but those who raise hens are familiar with, for example, wrinkled eggs with softer shells than usual. This is often caused by calcium deficiency or production problems in older hens, but sometimes disease is behind it.
