Facing the advance of climate change and the increasing loss of essential ecosystems, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) approved an initiative that declares the urgent need to preserve high mountain wetlands in Latin America and other regions of the world. This is Motion 024, called “Declaration on the urgent preservation of high mountain wetlands in Latin America and other regions of the world,” which proposes legal measures to ensure the conservation and restoration of these ecosystems. This achievement was driven by the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law (SPDA), through coordinated work with allied organizations from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Spain, which managed to get the IUCN to approve this motion of global scope.
