(Boeun=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Hyeong-woo = On the 5th, Boeun County in North Chungcheong announced that this year's public seasonal labor support program for Laos has concluded.
45 Laotian workers were deployed to 1,582 local farms from June 11th to the 13th, assisting with the management of field crops such as garlic and onions, pruning fruit trees, bagging, and harvesting during the busy farming season.
Public seasonal labor involves foreign workers living in a dormitory-style arrangement and being deployed to farms that need labor on a daily basis. The daily wage is 83,000 won.
County Mayor Choi Jae-hyeong said, "We deeply appreciate the Laotian workers for their diligent cooperation" and "Going forward, we will expand international exchange and cooperation to resolve the agricultural labor shortage and ensure that farmers can focus on farming with peace of mind."
