A batch of fish from the Khabarovsk Territory intended for export to China was found to have an excess of mercury by 3.1 times, as reported by the Primorsky interregional department of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance. The fish, frozen whole redfin, weighing more than 8.7 tons, failed to meet the required standards for mercury content. The accumulation of mercury in fish, especially large predatory species, can lead to neurological diseases and suppression of cardiovascular and immune system functions, and cannot be removed through cooking.
