Turkey is planning to increase its wheat imports by 1 million tons to 11 million tons for the 2022/23 marketing year due to rising demand for bread and other wheat products. In response to high prices, the government has eliminated the import duty on wheat and other grains, excluding rice, for 2022. The country's wheat imports for the 2021/22 marketing year are projected to reach 10 million tons, with Russia and Ukraine being the main suppliers. Turkey is also seeking alternative suppliers as it faces uncertainty in supply chains from Russia and Ukraine. The country has also cut back on durum wheat imports from Canada and Mexico due to high global prices.
