The Turkish Pasta Industrialists Association (TMSD) reports that Turkey ranks second globally in pasta production with a capacity of 3 million tons, having exported 1.3 million tons last year. The industry, which has grown from humble beginnings in the 1990s, expects to reach 1.5 million tons in exports this year, primarily to South America, Africa, and Japan. The southeastern region of Turkey, including Gaziantep and Mardin, contributes significantly to pasta production and exports, accounting for 58% and 65-70% respectively.
