In the July-September 2022/23 marketing year, Turkey experienced an 8% decrease in wheat flour exports compared to the same period in the previous year, totaling 795.5 thousand tons. Despite this, September exports saw a 12% increase compared to the previous year, reaching 320.8 thousand tons. While traditional importers like Iraq and Syria saw a decrease in their flour imports, Yemen and Sri Lanka increased their imports by 53% and 50 thousand tons, respectively. Due to a 40% decrease in initial wheat stocks, which are estimated at 2.2 million tons, it is forecasted that Turkey will see a rise in wheat imports to 10 million tons by the end of the season, while exports are expected to remain stable at 6.75 million tons in grain equivalent.
