The UK has reached an agreement with Norway and the European Union on sustainable catch limits for six fish stocks in the North Sea for 2021, valued at over £184 million. The first of its kind as an independent coastal state, the agreement aims to ensure the long-term viability of fish stocks including cod, haddock, plaice, whiting, herring, and saithe. The agreed catch levels are in line with or lower than the recommendations of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, with some stocks seeing increases while others see reductions compared to 2020. The UK is committed to sustainable fishing and is supporting the fishing industry and coastal communities.
