Over the past five years, Ukraine has seen the closure of more than 2,000 pig farms due to challenges such as feed price increases, raw material costs, and competition from imported pork. Despite these difficulties, the global pork market is expected to grow, offering potential opportunities for Ukrainian farmers if they can overcome obstacles with state support. The country's pig industry is heterogeneous, with both efficient and inefficient farms, and faces a need for modernization and integration of small farms into cooperatives to compete in the global market. Cooperatives can provide solutions, protect against corruption, and ensure quality animal health diagnostics.
