Unusual floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil are preventing the export of Brazilian pork to Uruguay, which is experiencing a shortage of the animal protein. The floods have caused logistical chaos, blocking many routes and disrupting trade. In the first quarter of this year, Uruguay imported nearly all of its pork from Brazil. Despite Argentina having a surplus of pork that could meet Uruguay's demand, it cannot export to its neighbor due to a lack of a health agreement. This is causing frustration for pork producers in both countries.
