Western Australia's government has announced an additional $22.2 million in funding to support the transition to a mandatory sheep and goat electronic identification (EID) system by 2025. This brings the total investment to $25.6 million, which will be used for tag incentive payments, supply chain infrastructure upgrades, and EID scanning equipment. The government also plans to allocate $10.4 million from the 2023-24 State Budget to boost animal disease outbreak response capabilities, creating up to 14 new biosecurity jobs. This funding is in response to the potential threat of diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease and Lumpy Skin Disease, aiming to strengthen livestock biosecurity and emergency response teams.
