Egyptian companies have entered into agreements with Somalia and Djibouti to import a substantial number of sheep and goats monthly to address the high prices of lamb meat in the local market. This initiative aims to balance prices and ensure meat availability at reasonable prices, especially ahead of Ramadan. The imported animals will be brought in through the Safaga region, equipped for immediate slaughter, and will help close the gap between local production and consumption. The African Livestock Importers Association has praised the support from the state in facilitating these imports and emphasized the need for more veterinary quarries to accommodate large imports, thereby ensuring meat quality and market stability.
