An unmissable autumn delight is viewing the fall foliage. At the peak of the colorful foliage, when the world turns a kaleidoscope of colors, when will it be this year?
The Korea Forest Service predicted that the peak of the foliage will be from late October to early November, varying by region and tree species. The peak is when more than 50% of the foliage has turned color. The average peak times for different species are: Ginkgo on the 28th of this month, oaks on the 31st, and maples on November 1st.
There are also differences by region. Maples are expected to reach their peak starting with Seoraksan in Gangwon (25th), followed by Sokrisan (27th), Naejangsan (November 6th), and Hallasan (November 4th). Ginkgo trees will peak at Hwaaksan (17th), Sokrisan (25th), Jukryeongsan and Gyeryongsan (26th), and Halla Arboretum (November 14th).
The peak of the foliage has been delayed by 4 to 5.2 days compared to the past 10 years. This forecast was made by integrating long-term observational data on biological seasons and mountain weather information collected by the National Arboretum, 9 regional public arboretums, and the National Institute of Forest Science.
