Danone was born in 1919 in Barcelona, when Sephardic immigrant Isaac Carasso began making yogurts inspired by the advances of the Pasteur Institute on lactic ferments and their benefits for children's intestinal health. He named his company “Danone,” a Catalan diminutive of his son Daniel. A century later, that small factory transformed into one of the largest food groups on the planet, with headquarters in Paris and a presence in more than 120 countries. Today, Danone defines itself as a "health through food" company. Its business is supported by three major divisions: Dairy and Plant-Based Products (EDP), Specialized Nutrition, which includes infant formulas and medical products, and Waters. Under its umbrella are globally recognized brands such as Activia, Danette, Actimel, Alpro, Oikos, YoPro, Aptamil, Nutrilon, Evian, Volvic, and Mizone, among many others.
