Vietnam is cultivating some of the world's most valuable ginseng, including Ngoc Linh and Lai Chau varieties, covering around 3,500 hectares, primarily under forest canopies with a high concentration of beneficial compounds. However, the industry faces challenges such as lack of branding, high prices due to low yield and disease risks, and limited processing technology compared to established ginseng markets in South Korea and China. The Vietnamese government officials and the Lai Chau Ginseng Association are advocating for a unified brand name for Vietnamese ginseng and more strategic development to enhance its global competitiveness. The article underscores the need for advances in quality control, marketing, and scientific research to elevate Vietnam's ginseng industry and establish a strong international brand identity.
