The potato industry in Switzerland has faced challenging weather conditions for three consecutive years, with a cool, wet spring followed by a dry summer. To combat these extreme weather events, the Swisspatat inter-professional association, along with research institutions, has been testing various potato varieties for their resistance to diseases and tolerance to heat and drought. The results of these tests have led to the inclusion of new robust varieties in the 2024 list, although the availability of these varieties is limited in Switzerland and throughout Europe.
