Molasses is a valuable sugar by-product nowadays in Brazil, where ethanol reaches record prices day after day. Molasses is applied mainly for the production of ethanol in Brazil, including those with lower Brix around 70%. The excess volumes are sold mainly to the animal feed and fertilizer industries, which often require Brix above 80%. Despite their liquid appearance, molasses have a high density of 1.4 and are normally sold in kilograms. The main producing region in Brazil currently sells molasses between R$ 1.20 and R$ 1.30 per kg.
