Yunnan Province Emerges as World's Largest Macadamia Planting Region in 2023

Yunnan Province, China, became the world's largest macadamia planting region in 2023 due to government support, the leadership of major nut companies, and farmer participation. Macadamia nuts were introduced to Yunnan in the 1990s, with Lincang City pioneering their cultivation. Lincang alone accounts for 40% of the global macadamia planting area. The industry has diversified into producing nut paste, oil, honey, and pastry, enhancing the value chain and contributing to a comprehensive output value of USD 826.15 million (RMB 5.94 billion) in 2023.

Kenyan Farmers Set Macadamia Price at USD 0.68/kg Amidst Export Permit Suspension

Farmers community groups in Kenya set the price of macadamia at USD 0.68 per kilogram (KES 100/kg). This is in response to the Nut Traders Association of Kenya (NUTAK) addressing the suspension of section 43 of the Crops Act 2013 by the Ministry of Agriculture, which permits the export of in-shell macadamia. NUTAK representatives actively educate farmers in Mathare-ini village, Kigumo, on the importance of harvesting mature nuts to prevent exploitation by mediators.
