Arkansas, United States (US), set a new record for peanut yield with 2.35 thousand pounds (lbs) per hectare (ha) in 2023, covering over 14.16 thousand ha in this region. The cultivation area is predicted to exceed 16.19 thousand ha by 2024. Nevertheless, the crop faces challenges such as irrigation problems and the prevalence of Southern blight and pigweed, which could impact the forecasts.
Due to their high economic value and low investment, peanuts have become the first choice for farmers in central Queensland, Australia. On April 18, 2024, Central Queensland University will organize a High-Value Crop Field Day event, showcasing a new peanut variety with great potential. The event aims to highlight the advancements in local grain management systems and the diversification of the northern cropping industry.
According to the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), Paraguayan peanut export revenues reached a record high of USD 3.1 million in Jan-24 and Feb-24, representing a significant 407% year-on-year (YoY) increase. The export volume increased by 307% YoY to 2.19 thousand metric tons (mt). Moreover, the average export price rose by 25% YoY to USD 1418/mt compared to USD 1137/mt in the same period of 2023.
Over the past five years, Paraguay has witnessed consistent growth in peanut shipments. In 2023, the country exported 13.05 thousand mt of peanuts, generating a record income of USD 19 million, higher than the record set in 2012 when the export value was USD 13.9 million.
