In Poltava Oblast, Russia, the sowing campaign has advanced swiftly, with farmers planting 70 thousand hectares (ha) of early cereals during W13, encompassing wheat, barley, oats, and peas. Moreover, the region's farmers initiated sugar beet sowing two weeks ahead of schedule, with 10 thousand ha of land currently allocated for sugar beet cultivation.
As of March 29, 2024, the sowing of spring crops, including oats, commenced across all regions of Ukraine. In total, 28.7 thousand ha of oats were sown. The distribution of oats sowing is 1.5 thousand ha in Odessa, 1.1 thousand ha in Ternopil Oblast, 2.3 thousand ha in Poltava Oblast, 0.5 thousand ha in Khmelnytskyi region, and 0.5 thousand ha in Mykolaiv region.
As of March 28, 2024, agricultural producers in Okhtyrka, Rome, and Sumy districts of Ukraine have commenced sowing early grain and leguminous crops for the 2024 season. In Sumy Oblast, farmers have sown oats on an area of 300 ha. Overall, the projected area for spring grain and leguminous crops in 2024 is 331 thousand ha, including 5.6 thousand ha dedicated to oats.
Between February 26 and March 3, 2024, consumer oats in Poland were purchased on average at USD 249.90 per metric ton (mt), reflecting a 4% week-on-week (WoW) decrease and a 2.5% month-on-month (MoM) decrease. Additionally, the price of oats was 14.5% lower year-on-year (YoY).
