The remaining types of jackfruit are predicted to increase soon, although the increase is not high. Vietnam currently has approximately 6,500 growing areas and 1,600 packing facilities across 33 localities, with export codes granted for 25 products, including jackfruit. Jackfruit is the fifth-largest export category for Vietnam, with an export turnover of USD 109 million in the first five months of 2023.

The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) in Bengaluru has discovered a new variety of jackfruit with distinct features. This larger-sized jackfruit is deep orange and is suitable for processing into products like jam and squash. In contrast to previously promoted jackfruit varieties, such as Iddu and Shankara, which had smaller fruits, this new variety weighs an impressive 25kg to 32kg. A tree bearing this new variety has been identified in the field of a farmer in Hessarghatta, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Notably, this variety also bears fruit during the off-season, from August to October, which is a rare characteristic of jackfruit.
