The wholesale price of fresh Atlantic bluefin tuna in Spain decreased by -10.09% YoY to 31.61 USD/KG in W2 December 2021. As the largest exporter of Atlantic bluefin tuna, Spain has a larger share of exports to Japan. The high demand for Atlantic bluefin tuna in Japan is due to the high consumption of fish and as an ingredient in sushi and sashimi. However, since Japan's quota for the catch limit of Atlantic bluefin tuna will increase in 2022, it means that Japan will maximize its catch of Atlantic bluefin tuna in its territory which is likely to reduce its imports from abroad including Spain.
