The potato psyllid is causing significant damage to potato and other solanaceous crops in all provinces of the Ecuadorian mountains, and it is also recorded in plants of the families Solanaceae, Convolvulaceae and Lamiaceae. The insect is a vector of the pathogen Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum, which causes the disease known as “zebra chip” or “spotted potato.” The most effective strategy to control the pest is integrated pest management, including quarantine inspection, eradication measures, and preventive measures such as using quality clean seeds and applying biorational products. This pest has a significant economic impact on producers and agribusiness, affecting various crops.
