Russia's agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, has asked Kazakhstan to cease issuing certificates for potato exports to Russia, following the discovery of sanctioned German potatoes being smuggled into Russia via Kazakhstan. The Russian authority is taking this step to prevent the entry of sanctioned products, and will only restart potato imports from Kazakhstan once its phytosanitary certification system meets international standards. Last year, Rosselkhoznadzor had proposed stricter measures to combat sanctioned food imports through countries not subject to the embargo.
