Morocco has an excellent environment for the production of berries and especially raspberries. This cultivar is mainly concentrated in two different climates, the Gharb or north side (Larache, Moulay Bouselham) and Souss Massa or the Southside (Agadir, Biougra).
A large portion of the north side farmers prefers to grow strawberries and raspberries more than blueberries. This region receives mild temperatures, moderate humidity, and rain, providing the farmers with higher yields and less disease spread. This microclimate is essential to obtain ripe and firm raspberries at the same time.
Moroccan Raspberries are typically ready for picking from mid-September to mid-June, allowing producers to supply fruits for about ten months of the year. This is due to the country's favorable weather conditions for growing berries, especially during the winter season, which is essential. Moroccan raspberries harvested during the fall and spring seasons are less competitive compared to the winter season.
Raspberry farmers are consistently looking to improve their operational processes, varieties, and sales channels to satisfy the massive demand for a superior quality product. The packers then supply the importing markets with a unique, tender, and sweet product that exceeds expectations. And, this is for both the fresh and the frozen finished products.
