If achieved, the production in the 2023/24 season will increase by nearly 70% over the previous season and 29% higher than the previous record set in the 2021/22 season. Compared with the previous season, California orchards experienced sufficient cold periods and water supply, and the pistachio fruiting area increased by nearly 30,000 acres (about 12,000 hectares). The area of pistachio cultivation in California has increased fivefold in 20 years, surpassing walnuts in the 2021/22 season, and in California, the ACP estimates that in 2023, about 461,000 acres of California's pistachio planting area will be in fruit production, 144,000 acres will be unfruitful, and 10,500 acres will be new plants.
