MacLab was established in 1973 by brothers Jim and Bill Broadbent. It farms and procures green-lipped mussels for manufacture into the best quality mussel powder. It processes from farm to factory, grows and harvests New Zealand green-lipped mussels and carefully extracts the precious bioactive for use in health products. It is heavily invested in research and development working with leading scientists, universities, and research institutes from around the world, funding more than 30 clinical research studies.
Its head office and state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is located in Nelson. It also has mussel farms at various locations across the top of the South Island. MacLab is a member of the New Zealand Sustainable Aquaculture Programme, a world-class sustainable management framework that helps to improve environmental practices.
