Characteristics of the plant Urtica dioica: http://www.vemo-vsv.com/en/products/herbal-extracts/urtica-dioica-nettle-roots/ The plant Urtica dioica is from the Urticaceae family, genus Urtica and is regarded as one of the most studied kinds of nettle. With regard to chemical composition specification of the entire plant, studies have established the presence of numerous different natural components in recent years. The Urtica dioica roots have been shown to have an abundance of chemical compounds, where different of them have been isolated and determined, such as organic acids (caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, citric acid, fumaric acid, glycyrrhizic acid, succinic acid, methoxycinchoninic acid, oxalic and silicic acids), coumarin derivatives – mainly hydroxycoumarins (umbelliferone and scopoletin), flavone glycosides (isorham-netin, kaempferol and quercetin), phytosterols (beta-sitosterol and stigma-sterol), monoterpenes, triterpenes, tannins, neutral polysaccharides and minerals. A quantitative content of about 0.01% be-ta-sitosterol and about 0.001% scopoletin has been established in the roots of the plant (HPLC). Definition: Dry extract from Urtica dioica roots. Characteristics: Brown to dark brown amorphous powder with specific odour. Content of natural components: Hydroxycoumarin derivatives, based on dry substance, %, not less than: • determined as umbelliferon: 1.0 • determined as scopoletin: 5.0 Control: The qualitative indices of the product are controlled in accordance with the company docu-mentation, where assay methods and their validity concerning linearity and repetition are included. Storage: Store in dry and cool places, away from direct sunlight. Shelf life: 3 (three) years from the date of production.
